Jelwan Assessment System
Purpose
The Jelwan Arabic Assessment System is a standardized framework used to assess Arabic language attainment across multiple grades and proficiency levels. It supports different school programs while maintaining consistency in assessment design, skill coverage, and reporting.
Assessment Design
- The assessment is organized into sections.
- Each section includes one topic and one stimulus (e.g., text, dialogue, form, or table).
- Students complete the questions for each section before progressing to the next.
- The assessment contains 40 multiple-choice questions (A-D).
- The recommended time to complete the assessment is 90 minutes.
- Each question is mapped to one assessed skill to support accurate measurement and reporting.
Topic-Based Sections
Each section focuses on one topic to ensure clarity and familiarity for students.
Topics can be aligned with the units taught in school, allowing flexibility while maintaining a consistent assessment structure.
This supports valid assessment of students' performance in language they have practiced in class.
Skills Assessed (by Level)
Depending on grade and program level, the assessment may include:
• Reading Comprehension
• Vocabulary in Context
• Language Functions (e.g., sequencing, linking, short responses)
• Grammar (level-appropriate forms and simple structure)
• Word Structure (level-appropriate forms)
• Spelling and Mechanics
Fairness Across Different Programs
Because schools may teach Arabic through different pathways, the Jelwan Assessment System is designed to ensure:
A consistent structure and skill framework across variants
Level-appropriate language and task demands
Assessment of what students learned and practiced, not unfamiliar content
This supports reliable results and meaningful feedback for students, teachers, and parents.
